The Long Road Home — July 15-21, 2007
"The Mad Dash" Part Two

Getting set up at Kansas State.

At dinner after the talk with Phil Nel's posse. Phil is barely visible in this shot -- farthest face on the right side of the table -- but was a marvelous host and made us cool music mixes for the road. We like Phil.

Winter approves of the wine selection.

Our hotel room's pictures were all upside-down.

On our way from Manhattan Kansas to New Mexico, we took some state roads that just happened to pass through Greensburg, Kansas; a small town, utterly destroyed by and F5 tornado only last May. Very spooky.

Arriving in Albuquerque, our first stop was the North Fourth Art Center (is this caption redundant or what?) --

-- where our host Bram Meehan and several artists showed us the work of a thriving local comics scene.

That night's talk Art Center Design College was hot and stuffy and the projector didn't quite work, but we all had a fantastic time! Sky gave her tightest, most brilliantly-timed talk of the tour so far, and mine was probably one of my funniest. Everything just worked.

Dinner afterward at the awesome Frontier Restaurant.

The road to Phoenix --

-- in JULY, no less.

Cactus!

Our swanky hotel, courtesy of Samurai Comics -- our signing at which I stupidly didn't get any pictures of. Special thanks to Mike, Moryha and the whole gang at Samurai.

Phoenix, looking very Phoenix-y.

Some of the faces at the Phoenix Art Institute talk.

NEXT: Southern California!
