The Long Road Home — July 22 to August 8
Southern California

An arid rest stop along the way from Phoenix to Los Angeles.

Wind farms again!

Back home in Thousand Oaks (though only temporarily!) we finally get to meet Sage, our new niece!! Here are Marcus and Pixie and the back of Sage's head. Cuter pic a bit later.

SAN DIEGO!!

Here's an audience shot from our family panel. I've heard from some people who loved it, including Cory Doctorow, but Holey Moley was it a train wreck! Way too many pictures, leaving barely any time for questions. All my fault, of course.

Meanwhile Sky and Winter blew everyone away at the "My Dad Makes Comics" panel along with Matt Wagner's adorable kids. Sky was a near-perfect moderator, putting her old man to shame. Sky's biggest triumph, though, may have been the CBLDF auction where the copy of Making Comics she'd been carting around for a year, getting signed by tons of artists, was auctioned off for a whopping $1,500!

I love this shot of the convention center.

Heading back into L.A.

With a week off, we got to celebrate Winter's 12th Birthday! Here she is with Sky and returning Tour guest star Kendra.

And there you go. Much better picture of Sage, looking at Shara (another returning guest star!).

Winter as America's Next Top Golfer.

Yeah, our kids are short! (Amanda, Jenna and Nadia are all Winter's age, not Sky's!)

Now, strangely enough, it's back to the San Diego convention center --

-- to get ready for my keynote at the legendary SIGGRAPH conference!

Over 1,500 people gathered to hear the talk. Good thing it went smoothly (in fact, it might have been the best -- and one of the best-received --talks of the whole tour). Very cool.

NEXT: Hawaii!
