The McCloud Tour - June 6-10
Juneau, Alaska

The ferry from Haines to Juneau, carrying the five of us -- and our car -- to Alaska's capitol.

The solarium. A blessing on winter days, I'm sure.

Sailing past glaciers.

In June.

CUTE OVERLOAD!

At our hotel lobby, we're greeted by Precious and Taffy. Yes those are actual living dogs.

And also there to greet us are our hosts! Carol Race (right) and her son Pat (left) of the Juneau Public Library. Also Pete Morrisette and Pat's partner-in-crime, Aaron.

Downtown Juneau. Touristy (complete with multiple cruise ships) but gorgeous nonetheless. I wish my photos could do justice to this enchanting city.

You might think the back of a bagel shop an odd place for a lecture. It was in fact a good venue with a decent-sized, enthusiastic crowd. Very cool. Apparently, they have bands in a lot.

A day off. Checking out the museum.

And whale-watching! We pulled out of the harbor only to turn 180 degrees when news arrived that there were whales in the harbor itself!

We got some great views, but I think this boat got the best view of all when this humpback shot out of the water in front of them. I was lucky enough to have my camera ready.

One of three cruise ships in Juneau's harbor.

"Man, that's big."

Playing Wii on the rooftop of Pat Race's building late at night.

Great, talented kids took my workshop the next day. During a mere 2 hour studio session (after the 1 hour lecture), they produced some very impressive pages.

Dude. That is so a glacier!

"Wait! Let me run further away to give it a sense of scale!"

[sound of Winter running back to the car to avoid mosquitos]

Next: Fairbanks and Anchorage!
